Mother’s Day is here again and it is time to honor and pay tribute to moms and it doesn’t matter whether she is a biological mother or someone that is or has played a mother figure in your life.
Today is the day to remember the small things that mothers do daily and say thanks for her guidance, love, protection and just for being there in our everyday lives. For those that have lost their mother’s, you can still honor her with your memory and appreciation of what she meant to you.
So the question is How to honor and pay tribute to mom?
Being a mother myself, I can say it is the small thoughtful things that matter the most. Of course, you can always do the usual purchase flowers, perfume, candy and dinner but the small acts of love are what I appreciate the most.
While your list may vary according to your mom but perhaps it will put you on the track of thinking outside of the box for your own mother. You can honor and pay tribute to mom by use of the following suggestions…
Cooking for her
My husband will honor me and my mother by cooking for us. He always takes into consideration what mom and I like before preparing his meal. Since this is a usual tradition, I will usually add a desert I think my mother will enjoy. This is my way of contributing to honor my mother. Some may say it is your day so why are you cooking, well because my mother is in attendance and I will pay my tribute to the dinner for her.
Taking care of small deeds for her
This will vary according to the mother, so for me, my family would clean the house without me nudging or reminding what needs to be done. This will include washing and folding clothes (anyone that knows me know I hate folding clothes…haha that is another story), mopping floors, running errands, cleaning her office, shopping for the house, or just anything you can do to assist her for that day.
My mom is not so technological so I would ask her if she needs anything done in this area. Her house is usually clean and clothes are usually washed and folded (she loves this..she use to own a Laundromat where she would teach people how to properly wash and fold clothes….haha…which is why I hate it now…haha)
Pamper her
Pampering comes in a lot of different ways depending on the mom. For me, my daughter will give me a manicure and pedicure. Yes I could pay for it, but she likes to do it for me instead. She does her own manicure and pedicure so this is her way of paying tribute to me. While she is doing my nails, we will watch some of my favorite classic movies Heaven Can Wait, The Little Women, and both of our favorite Gone with the Wind. My husband will include my favorite ice cream Black Walnut from Baskin and Robbins and my son will usually sit with me to discuss and watch the movies as well.
For my mother, we will spend time with her doing whatever she likes. My mom being a workaholic and a very independent woman, spending time with her doing nothing is a treat. She enjoys family time. She loves to go driving and site seeing. This clears her head of all of her to do list for the day.
Give gifts specific for her
I love cards. I keep all the cards that I am given by my family. I also love classic black and white movies, candles, perfume, flowers and m&m almond candies. So I can expect to receive any or all of the mentioned as a gift from my family.
In terms of jewelry, I love sterling silver or platinum and diamonds. Everyone loves diamonds….haha. If my family buys jewelry they will usually come in one of those forms.
My mom has plenty of jewelry. She has jewelry that she doesn’t wear so this option is out of the question when it comes to her. She loves the old cowboy movies, plants and flowers, particularly plants and flowers to be transplanted into her landscape or flower bed at a later date.
Some other gifts to consider:
• Electronic reader
• Book light (for those like me that love the feel of a real book)
• Coffee cup warmer
• Espresso machine
• Herbal tea brewer
• Scarf
• Body and bath oils
• Scrap book of pictures and memoirs
• A handmade or sewn item
• Gift cards to her favorite restaurants (these come in handy when she does not feel like cooking)
• Spa day (for the busy mom that need an occasional massage)
I hope this has gotten your creative juices to flowing on various ways to honor and pay tribute to your mom.
There is no definite way to honor your mother, but if you consider who your mother is or was and honor that memory or life in your specific way she continues to live in your heart forever.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the women who are moms or have acted or acting as a mom to someone for you are special and one of a kind!!!
